21 Days of Prayer
Fruit of the Spirit: Joy
(Psalm 16:11; Nehemiah 8:10; John 15:11)
Welcome to Day 5 of 21 Days of Prayer
The Unshakeable Source of Joy
We’ve explored Love, and today we focus on the second great fruit: Joy. We are asking God to powerfully restore and strengthen it within us.
Understand the critical difference: Happiness is fragile; it depends on circumstances. Joy is unshakeable because it comes from the Holy Spirit, depending only on the presence of God.
Let’s anchor ourselves in the Scriptural truth about joy:
Psalm 16:11 (ESV):
“In Your presence there is fullness of joy.”
Nehemiah 8:10 (ESV):
“…the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
John 15:11 (ESV):
“These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”
Joy is not the denial of hardship; joy is the presence of God in the middle of it.
Joy is what allows you to persevere when life is heavy. It’s what keeps hope alive when circumstances haven’t changed yet. Joy is spiritual strength, power, endurance, and clarity.
Our church family needs a fresh restoration of joy. Some families are tired, some marriages are worn, leaders feel stretched, and many are fighting silent battles.
But when joy comes, the atmosphere shifts:
- When joy comes, heaviness breaks.
- When joy comes, faith rises.
- When joy comes, worship becomes warfare.
Joy is not optional; joy is survival in the Christian life. The Spirit is ready to restore it right now.
Your 21-Day Prayer Focus: Day 5
Today, we are praying for joy to flood our congregation, transforming every heavy place into a place of spiritual strength. Pray specifically for these three things:
- For Strength in the Battle (Nehemiah 8:10): Identify an area where you feel tired, stretched, or emotionally heavy. Ask the Holy Spirit to break the heaviness and restore the joy of the Lord as your strength for perseverance in that specific battle.
- For Fullness of Joy (Psalm 16:11): Pray for a deeper sense of God’s tangible presence today. Ask the Lord to fill you with “fullness of joy” that is rooted in your relationship with Him, not in your external circumstances or relief from hardship.
- For Corporate Restoration: Pray for joy to flood our church—joy in our homes, joy in marriages, joy in our leaders, and joy in our ministries. Pray that this restored joy would result in bold, genuine, and spontaneous worship.
Your Action Step for Today (Confession & Action)
1- Action: Share one testimony of gratitude—big or small—with someone today. Joy grows when we speak about God’s goodness.
2- Confession: Say this out loud: “Lord, fill me with Your joy today. Let the joy of the Lord be my strength. I receive Your full joy that perseveres through everything.”
Walk today with expectation: The Spirit is ready to restore your joy.
