21 Days of Prayer

Identity in Christ – Grace & Mercy

(Titus 3:5–7; Romans 8:15–17)

Welcome to 21 Days of Prayer

Hello, church! We are kicking off 21 Days of Prayer, and I am genuinely excited for what God is going to do over the next three weeks. We aren’t just checking off a box; we are committing to re-centering our hearts and minds on God’s truth, focusing our energy, and aligning our lives with His Spirit.

My prayer for all of us is that this time will not be defined by duty, but by a deep sense of discovery—a fresh encounter with the power, presence, and purpose of God. Let’s dive into Day 1, which starts with the most foundational truth of all: Who we are in Christ.

Breathing in Grace

Friends, I want us to take a deep, deep breath today. Not just physically, but spiritually. I want you to breathe in the stunning reality of God’s grace—personally, profoundly, and completely.
It’s easy to live by a checklist, but God calls us to live by a gift.

Let’s look at the cornerstone of our identity. Here’s the declaration straight from Scripture:

Titus 3:5–7 (ESV):
“He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to His own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit… so that being justified by His grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”

Did you catch that? Your salvation is a mercy move, not a performance review.
And it gets even better. This is what you received:

Romans 8:15–17 (ESV):
“For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’ The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ…”

From Performance to Person

Let that truth settle in. If God saved you when you were still separated from Him, how much more will He hold you, keep you, and strengthen you now that you are His beloved child?
Stop building your life on shaky ground:
Your performance.
Your past mistakes.
Your current struggles or feelings.
Your true, unshakable identity is built on His mercy, His word, His Spirit, and His grace poured out richly upon you.

When we—as individuals and as a church—truly grasp this identity, everything shifts. Grace becomes the tone. Mercy becomes the culture. Adoption becomes the atmosphere we breathe.
We can stop competing, hiding, and striving to earn something we already possess. We start resting, trusting, and genuinely growing in His love.

Your 21-Day Prayer Focus: Day 1

Today, as we move into a dedicated time of prayer, let’s make these truths our fuel. Pray specifically for these three things:
For the Spirit of Adoption: Pray that the Holy Spirit would silence the “spirit of slavery and fear” and replace it with the conviction that you are a cherished “child of God” and an “heir” (Romans 8:15–17).

Pray against any lies of unworthiness.
For Grace over Performance: Identify one area in your life where you are currently striving or operating out of fear of failure. Ask the Lord to help you rest in His finished work and receive His grace in that specific area instead of relying on your works (Titus 3:5).

For the Church’s Culture: Pray for our church family, asking the Lord to make grace and mercy the overwhelming tone and culture. Pray that we stop competing and start growing, seeing one another through the lens of Christ’s adoption.

Your Action Step for Today

I want you to make this personal. Pause right now and speak this out loud—slowly and intentionally. Let it be a confession of faith:
“Father, thank You that I am Yours. Let Your grace shape every part of my life and our church today.”
Walk through this day with an unshakeable confidence:
You are loved.
You are chosen.
You are His.
And His grace is more than enough.
