“THE BEAUTY OF GOD’S LOVE”
(Song of Solomon 1:1 – 4:16)
“You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.” — Song of Solomon 4:7
Simple Truth:
God’s love for us is close, deep, and personal—more powerful than we can imagine.
Reflection:
In 1997, when I was 23, a friend started a drama ministry in Manhattan. That’s where I began to grow close to Yasmin—who is now my wife. We met every week to rehearse plays, skits, and clown shows. Yes, clown shows! We dressed up and shared Bible stories with families in the South Bronx.
I looked forward to every rehearsal. I loved spending time with Yasmin and did everything I could to be around her.
Song of Solomon chapters 1–4 describe a strong, loving relationship between a bride and her groom. The words are full of feeling and care. While the book talks about marriage love, it also gives us a picture of how much God loves us.
In Song of Solomon 4:7, the groom says, “You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.” That’s how God sees us in Jesus—clean, forgiven, and loved deeply.
Just like the groom pursues his bride, Jesus pursues us. Ephesians 5:25–27 says Jesus gave His life for the church to make her holy and clean. His love isn’t just romantic—it’s a love that saves and restores.
Reflection Questions:
- Do I truly believe that God sees me as beautiful and loved in Christ?
- How can I grow closer to Jesus as my first love?
- Am I resting in God’s love, or am I still trying to earn it?
Application:
- Accept God’s love. Take time to think about how deeply God loves you—not for what you do, but because of who you are in Christ.
- Grow closer to God. Spend time with Him in prayer and worship, just like you would with someone you love.
- Remember who you are. Every day, remind yourself that you are loved, accepted, and made new in Jesus.
- Share His love. Let the love God gives you overflow into how you treat others.
Closing Prayer:
Lord, thank You for loving me with a love that is strong, personal, and never-ending. Help me to see myself the way You see me—clean, loved, and made new through Jesus. Draw me close to You every day. Help me to reflect Your love in all my relationships. Let my life tell the story of how beautiful Your love really is. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
