“A LOVE THAT LASTS”
(Song of Solomon 5:1 – 8:14)
“Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away.” — Song of Solomon 8:7a
Simple Truth:
Real love—like God’s love for us—is strong, steady, and lasts forever.
Reflection:
In 1999, I married the love of my life, Yasmin. God has blessed us with two amazing sons—Seth and Isaac. Now, after nearly 26 years of marriage, I can say without a doubt that Jesus has always been the foundation of our love.
Over these 25 years, 9 months, and 24 days, our love has grown stronger. But I know that it’s not because of anything we’ve done on our own—it’s because God is the one who makes love grow.
In Song of Solomon 5–8, we see how the love between the bride and her groom grows and matures. There are highs and lows—moments of separation, longing, and reunion. But through it all, their love stands firm.
Song of Solomon 8:7 says, “Many waters cannot quench love.” This kind of love keeps going, no matter what. It’s a picture of how God loves us—even when we mess up, drift away, or feel far from Him.
The perfect example of this kind of love is found in Jesus. Romans 8:38–39 says that nothing can separate us from God’s love—not death, fear, or anything in all creation. Just like the groom never gives up on his bride, Jesus never gives up on us.
Reflection Questions:
- Have I drifted away from God? Am I ready to seek Him again?
- Do I really believe that God’s love for me never changes, even when I fail?
- How can I show a deeper love for Jesus in my daily life?
Application:
- Chase after God. When you feel far from Him, go after Him like the bride searched for her beloved. He’s always near.
- Trust in God’s love. Remind yourself every day that God’s love doesn’t depend on how good you are—it’s based on His promise.
- Love others like God loves you. Be patient, forgiving, and full of grace in your relationships.
- Renew your love for Jesus. Spend time with Him each day in prayer, worship, and quiet moments to grow closer.
Closing Prayer:
Lord, thank You for loving me with a love that never fails. Even when I feel far from You, You are always near. Help me to trust in Your steady love and to seek You with all my heart. Let Your love flow through me so I can show it to others. Teach me to walk with You closely and love You more each day. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
