“WHAT, ME WORRY?”
(Psalm 46:1-11; 47:1-9; 48:1-14; 49:1-20)

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…” – Psalm 46:1-2

I realize that this may “date” me, but a long time ago, when I was a pre-teen, I would often read “Mad Magazine.” If you are not from my generation, you may not recognize this as what at the time was a leading satire publication of its day! And, one of the often featured personalities seen on the cover was the fictitious character, Alfred E. Neuman. This gap-toothed, messy-haired, dumb-struck individual was known for his often quoted phrase – “What? Me worry?” The implication was that he was too dumb and ignorant to be concerned or worry about anything!

Interestingly, it seems that today there are many folks  – including many Christ-followers – who live a lifestyle exactly opposite of Alfred E. Newman, choosing to worry about nearly everything!

My friend, no matter what your circumstances may appear to be, if you are trusting Christ as your Savior, then know that God is your refuge and your strength! He is always present when times are troubling! So, like the Psalmist, you need to agree and say “Therefore, I will not fear!”

If the earth gives way – do not fear! If the mountains crash into the sea – do not fear! No matter what you may see, know that “the Lord of hosts is with us!” (:7) It is our God who makes wars to cease (:9). It is our God who stops the attacks of the enemy. 

Simple Truth:
What then should we do? “Be still, and know that He is God!” (:10) God is with us! Therefore – what? Me, worry? Absolutely not! 

Reflections:
No matter how things may appear in the natural, you need not worry! Our God is with us, and is our fortress and protection!

Application: 

• Trust! Place your trust in God, not in your own understanding of your circumstances! (Proverbs 3:5)
• A Way! God will make a way for you, even when it seems as though there is no way! (Isaiah 43:16)
• Never! God will never leave you or forsake you! (Hebrews 13:5)

Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I confess that too many times I try to lean on my own understanding, and figure my own way out. But, my own knowledge and understanding pales in comparison to Yours. So, I will trust in You, knowing that You will lead me, protect me, and provide all I need. I thank You for this, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
