“STRENGTH THROUGH DISCIPLINE”
(2 Kings 15:8–38; 2 Chronicles 27:1–9; Micah 1:1–16)

So Jotham became mighty, because he ordered his ways before the Lord his God.”2 Chronicles 27:6 (ESV)

Jotham isn’t one of the most famous kings in the Bible. He doesn’t have the big stories or dramatic moments that we read in scriptures like David or Solomon. Yet, Jotham is remembered for something just as powerful, his faithfulness and discipline. In the same way an athlete trains for a big competition, Jotham’s strength came not from great victories but from consistent, disciplined choices. He “ordered his ways before the Lord,” meaning he daily aligned his actions, thoughts, and priorities with God’s will, just like an athlete follows a strict training routine. It’s the small, repeated choices, like early morning runs or countless hours in the gym, that build the strength needed for success.  Jotham’s might came from this kind of quiet, daily commitment.

Jotham’s life teaches us that spiritual strength doesn’t come from big moments or public recognition, it’s built through consistent discipline. Just like an athlete grows stronger through hours of practice, we grow in our faith through consistent, faithful choices. The world may not always notice the small steps we take toward God, but those daily disciplines shape us into the people God wants us to be. Like Jotham, we can become strong in the Lord, not through grand gestures, but through steady, intentional living.

Simple Truth:
True strength in our faith comes not from the big moments, but from the consistent, disciplined choices we make every day.

Reflections:

  • What “small” disciplines or routines can you build into your life to strengthen your relationship with God?
  • How can you stay faithful to God’s ways, even when it doesn’t seem as exciting as a big, dramatic moment?

Application:

  • Start a simple spiritual discipline today: whether it’s 5 minutes of prayer, reading a verse, or setting aside time for silence and reflection.
  • Evaluate your daily habits.  Are there areas where you can grow in faithfulness or discipline?
  • Trust that the consistent, hidden choices you make today will build strength for tomorrow’s challenges.

Closing Prayer:
Lord, thank You for showing us that true strength comes from discipline and faithfulness, just like Jotham’s life. Help me to be consistent in the small things and to remain faithful to You, trusting that You are growing me each day. May I honor You in both the quiet and the visible moments of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
