“THE CLIMB THAT CHANGES YOU”
(Isaiah 1:1-2:22, Micah 4:1-13)
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” – Isaiah 2:3 (ESV)
Last year, Albert and I had the privilege of traveling to Tenerife. During our stay, we decided to visit and climb Mt. Teide. We took the air tram as high as it would go, and from there, we began our ascent on foot. The climb was tough, with a steep path that grew more challenging the higher we went. The air became thinner, making it harder to breathe. My legs grew tired, and each step took real determination. Yet, when we finally reached the summit, the view was absolutely breathtaking. It made every bit of effort worthwhile. The island stretched out beneath us, the sky was wide and clear, and everything felt peaceful and beautiful. Standing at that altitude, we could see the world differently with more clarity and awe.
Isaiah’s invitation to “go up to the mountain of the Lord” reminds me of that climb. Drawing near to God often takes effort, setting aside distractions, opening our hearts to learn from Him, and trusting His guidance. But just like the view from Mt. Teide, spending time with God helps us see life more clearly. He teaches us how to live, and after spending time with Him, our lives begin to change as we follow His path.
As we continue our journey with God, it’s important for us to remember that the climb is ongoing. Each day brings new opportunities to grow closer to Him, learn more of His ways, and walk more faithfully in His paths. The view from the mountain reminds us that every effort, every step taken toward God, leads to greater peace, purpose, and joy. Let this be an encouragement to keep climbing, trusting that God is leading you and shaping you along the way.
Simple Truth:
Spending time with God takes effort, but it brings clarity and changes the way we live.
Reflections:
- When have you taken time to “climb” closer to God and learn from Him?
- How has your time with God helped you see your life or choices differently?
Application:
- Schedule quiet moments each day this week to read, pray, or worship.
- Identify one area in your life where you want God’s teaching to guide your steps.
- Remember that just like climbing a mountain, the effort to grow closer to God is worth it.
Closing Prayer…
Lord, thank You for inviting me to come close to You. Help me make time to listen and learn from You every day. Teach me Your ways so I can walk in Your paths. Like the climb up Mt. Teide, remind me that the effort to be near You brings peace, beauty, and clarity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
