“BE THE ONE!”
(Jeremiah 3:1 – 5:31)
“Run up and down every street in Jerusalem,” says the LORD. “Look high and low; search throughout the city! If you can find even one person who is just and honest, I will not destroy the city.” – Jeremiah 5:1
Israel and Judah had forsaken the Lord. God decrees that they are foolish and that they do not know Him. They are senseless and have no understanding. They are clever at doing wrong and no talent for doing what is right! (Jeremiah 4:22)
What was once fertile land was now empty and formless. The people are foolish and senseless. They have eyes but do not see, and ears but do not hear (5:21) They are stubborn and rebellious, and have turned against God, instead choosing to practice idolatry. (5:23)
Yet, in the midst of all of this horror, God tells Jeremiah “if you can find even one person who is honest and just, I will not destroy the city.”
Once cannot help but see the parallels of the condition of Israel and Judah to our own American society today. Founded upon Christian principles that are largely today ignored and even outlawed.
But, you and I do not have to subscribe to the evil ways that are increasing all around us! Be the one! Be that person who is honest and just, following the will of God! Be the one who trusts in Christ, and follows His Word!
Simple Truth: We do not have to be like the world around us! We can let the Lord light our path, and follow His lead! We can “be the one” who trusts in God!
Reflections and Application:
- Is there anything in your life that contradicts the clear teaching found in God’s Word? Today is the day to stop living like this world, and living for God on purpose!
- What kind of a steward are you with all that God has given to you? It is time to re-prioritize your life and put Him first!
- You can know – and do – God’s will in your life! “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” (Romans 12:2)
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father, the world in which we live has largely forsaken You. Put a hedge around me, and direct my steps that I may live according to Your direction. Help me to choose right words and proper actions today that will please You and demonstrate the change You have made in me through Jesus Christ. I ask this in His name, Amen.
