“THE GOD WHO COMES LOOKING”
(Ezekiel 32:1–34:31)

“For thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I, I myself will search for my sheep and will seek them out.” – Ezekiel 34:11

Have you ever felt overlooked or forgotten? Maybe you’ve felt disconnected spiritually or emotionally, unsure of where God is or how to find your way back. It can be easy for us to feel distant when life gets complicated or when the people who were supposed to care for us fall short.  Yet in Ezekiel 34:11 we find this powerful and comforting truth, God doesn’t wait for us to find our way back, He comes looking for us.

In this passage, God addresses the failure of Israel’s leaders, their shepherds had neglected the very people they were called to serve.  Instead of feeding, protecting, and guiding, they served themselves. So God steps in with a personal promise: “I myself will search for my sheep and seek them out.” 

Friends, this isn’t just a statement of rescue, it’s a declaration of love. God takes it upon Himself to restore what others have broken and to gather what has been scattered. There’s a deep gentleness in these words.

They remind us that no matter how far we drift, we are never beyond the reach of our Great Shepherd. He doesn’t pursue us out of duty but rather out of compassion.  God doesn’t just put up with His people, He cherishes them.  And He cherishes you. He is the kind of God who draws near, who searches the hidden places of our hearts, and gently leads us home.

Simple Truth:
God doesn’t wait for us to return on our own.  He comes searching with compassion, ready to restore what’s been lost.

Reflections:

• Have I allowed the pain of being overlooked by others to shape how I see God? 

   

• In what areas of my life is God gently seeking me out today?

   

Application:

• Read Ezekiel 34:11–16 slowly and prayerfully and imagine God speaking these words over you.

   

• Invite God to “seek out” any part of you that feels hidden, hardened, or lost.

   

• Be intentional in noticing someone today who may feel forgotten and reflect God’s seeking heart.

   

Closing Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being the Shepherd who comes looking when I stray. Forgive me for the times I’ve wandered or resisted Your voice. Help me to recognize Your presence, trust Your pursuit, and rest in the safety of Your care. Lead me home to You again and again. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
