SEPTEMBER 19 – Reading 262

“A CHANGED ATTITUDE”
(Ezra 6:16-22; Zechariah 9:1 – 11:17)

“For seven days they celebrated with joy the Feast of Unleavened Bread, because the LORD had filled them with joy by changing the attitude of the king of Assyria, so that he assisted them in the work on the house of God, the God of Israel.” – Ezra 6:22

The people of Israel were determined to rebuild the temple of God in Jerusalem. And, they face numerous obstacles, including from governmental leaders. But, God had provided for the discovery of historical letters, once thought lost, to be found, giving permission not only to rebuild the temple, but also to provide for the means to accomplish the task.

This supernatural discovery literally changed the attitude of the officials! Once dead set against the project, now they were supporting it! God had “changed the attitude of the king of Syria!”

God is still God today! He can still change attitudes of people. He can change the attitude of those around you who may be opposed to you and your work. And, God can also change your attitude, if it would be for His desire and plan! Are you willing to allow the Lord to change you, including changing your attitude?

Simple Truth:
God wants to change us, and those around us, to allow for His perfect will to be accomplished!

Reflections & Application:

• It’s been said that the only people who want change at church are babies in the nursery – and they allow it while they are crying and screaming! Are you willing to allow change in the church, for His will to be accomplished?

   

• We need to recognize the difference between methods and message. The message of Christ never changes. However, the methods best used to share that message will always be changing to meet the culture in which we live.

   

• “If you always do what you’ve always done, you will continue to get what you already got.” Today is a new day, so be willing to do new things and allow the Lord to work through you!

Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father, keep me from being so attached to my past that I don’t allow for new things you want to do in my future. Each new day is a gift from You, a fresh start filled with new mercies, opportunities, and a chance to walk in Your purpose. I thank You for allowing me to move forward! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
