“GOD’S WORD IS HIS PROMISE”
(Psalm 119:1–88)

 “This is my comfort in my trouble, that your promise gives me life.” – Psalm 119:50

In my younger years, I remember my friends and I always promising each other many things. “I promise to lend you my Nintendo tomorrow.” “I promise to give you a dollar for candy.” “I promise not to punch your arm really hard.” My friends would ask me, “Do you really promise?” There’s an old saying, “Cross my heart and hope to die.” Thank God that He didn’t take this saying seriously, because I wouldn’t be here today writing this devotion.

Have you ever had someone make a promise to you and then keep it? It feels good to know you can trust their word. But people sometimes forget or fail to keep promises. God never does. His Word is full of promises that are always true. We can trust every one of them.

Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible, and it is all about God’s Word. The writer speaks of God’s laws, commands, and promises with love and respect. He says that God’s Word guides him, protects him, and gives him hope in times of trouble. Even when life is hard, he finds comfort in remembering that God’s promises never fail.

When we face problems, we can choose to focus on our fears or we can hold on to what God has said. His Word tells us that He is with us, that He loves us, and that He will never leave us. These are not just nice thoughts. They are promises from the One who always keeps His Word.

We see God’s promises most clearly in Jesus Christ. God promised to send a Savior, and He kept that promise. Because of Jesus, every promise of God is true for those who believe in Him.

Simple Truth:
God’s Word is His promise, and we can trust it completely.

Application:

• Read Psalm 119:1–88 and write down the promises you see.

   

• When you feel worried, speak God’s promises out loud to remind yourself of His truth.

   

• Trust God’s Word in every situation, knowing He will do what He has said.

   

• Thank Jesus for being the greatest promise God has kept.

Closing Prayer:
Lord, thank You that Your Word is true and Your promises never fail. Forgive me for the times I doubt what You have said. Help me to trust Your Word every day. Thank You for sending Jesus, the greatest promise You have kept. Fill my heart with peace as I remember that You always keep Your Word. Amen.
