“WORSHIPPING THE LORD WHO HELPS AND PROTECTS”
(Psalms 120:1-7; 121:1-8; 123:1-4; 125:1-5)
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” – Psalm 121:1–2
In the comics and movies about Superman, we read and hear people saying “Look, up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Superman!” It’s a true statement that in times of trouble, we look for help. Oftentimes, unconsciously, our eyes look up. It’s almost as if our spirit automatically knows where our help comes from. In those moments we often look for something or someone to help us. The psalms we read here remind us that real help only comes from the Lord. He is the one who made the heavens and the earth. When we know this, worship becomes our natural response.
Psalm 120 shows a cry for help in times of trouble. Psalm 121 reminds us that God is our keeper and protector. Psalm 123 teaches us to lift our eyes to God with trust, waiting for His mercy. Psalm 125 tells us that those who trust in the Lord are strong and unshakable like a mountain. These words show that worship is not just about singing. It is about turning our hearts and eyes to God in trust and thanks for who He is and what He does.
When we worship God, we are saying that He is greater than our fears and stronger than our problems. Worship focuses on His power, love, and faithfulness. It helps us remember that He is always watching over us and that nothing can move those who trust in Him.
We see this most clearly in Jesus. He is our help, our protector, and the one who keeps us forever. Worshiping Him is our way of showing love, thanks, and trust in His care.
Simple Truth:
True worship is trusting and honoring God for His help and protection.
Reflections:
- How has God helped you in a time of trouble?
- How does knowing God protects you change the way you worship Him?
Application:
- Worship God not just with your voice but with your trust and obedience.
- In times of trouble, lift your eyes to God and remember He is your helper.
- Thank Jesus for being your protector and for keeping you forever.
Closing Prayer:
Lord, I lift my eyes to You because You are my help and my protector. Thank You for always watching over me and keeping me safe. Forgive me when I forget to trust You. Help me to worship You in every part of my life. Thank You for Jesus, who is my Savior and my keeper forever. Amen.
