“BOLDLY ENDURING HARDSHIP FOR THE GOSPEL”
(2 Timothy 1:1 – 4:22)

“Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God,“ – 2 Timothy 1:8

After more than 20 years working for the same lighting company, and almost 30 years in the lighting industry, I have the opportunity to be in full time ministry. Starting in 2026, I’ll be the full time Campus Pastor of TLC @ Valley Chapel. A church body that loves Christ and loves to serve the community. I’m nervous and excited at the same time. With this decision that I’ve made, I know the enemy wants to detour God’s plans for my life. But, God’s plans always come on top.

I thank God for his strength, my wife Yasmin for the words of encouragement, and my Pastor for trusting in me. 

Paul wrote this letter to his younger friend, Timothy, while Paul was stuck in a Roman jail, knowing he might soon die. Life for Christians was dangerous, and being a church leader meant facing hardship. Paul knew Timothy might be afraid to lead because everyone was running away from Paul, the famous preacher, who was now just a jailed criminal.

But Paul gives Timothy a strong command: “do not be ashamed… Instead, share in suffering for the gospel “

This is not a call to look for pain, but a call to have bravery. When you choose to give your life to telling people the Gospel, especially as a pastor, leader, or teacher, you will face challenges. You have to be ready to stand firm even when people say mean things, leave you alone, or hurt you because of the truth you share.

Where Does Strength Come From?

How can a person choose to face hard times? Paul tells Timothy that the power to keep going does not come from his own strength or courage, but from “God’s power.”

If you are called to lead or teach, know that the road will have troubles. But the courage to face them isn’t something you have to make up yourself; it is God’s power working through you. Stay focused on the mission, rely on God’s help, and never be ashamed of the Good News.

Simple Truth:
God gives leaders the power, love, and self-control they need to go through hard times and boldly share the Gospel without shame.

Reflections:

• What is one worry or distraction today that is tempting you to stop doing the work God called you to?

   

• What does it look like to use God’s “power, love, and self-control” when someone is criticizing you?

   

Application:

• Light the Fire: Take time today to remember when God first called you to serve. Ask God to “stir up the gift” of the Holy Spirit that is inside you (2 Tim 1:6).

   

• Think Like a Soldier: Name one everyday worry you need to let go of so you can focus only on serving Christ.

   

• Ask for Courage: Pray specifically for the courage to share God’s truth this week, even if it feels uncomfortable or causes others to disagree with you.

   

Closing Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for the important job of serving Your Church. I admit that sometimes I want to quit or feel embarrassed when people speak against Your Word. Give me the courage of a good soldier. Make me strong with Your daily help. Fill me with the power, love, and self-control that comes from Your Spirit, so I can go through hard times and never be ashamed of the Good News. Amen.
