“IMITATE THE GOOD”
(2 John 1-13; 3 John 1-15; Revelation 1:1 – 3:22)
“Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God.” – 3 John 11
The Apostle John tells us we must always choose to imitate good people. Who is the best person we can imitate? Jesus Christ!
Jesus is the perfect example of God’s goodness. When John says to “imitate good,” He is pointing us to Jesus’s life of love and truth.
- The Bad Example (Diotrephes) was proud and selfish, wanting to be the boss.
- The Good Example (Gaius) was kind and helped others who were traveling to share God’s message.
We show we belong to God when we act like Jesus: serving others, speaking the truth with love, and putting others first. Your actions show whose example you follow. Choosing to do good things proves you are following Jesus.
Simple Truth:
We must imitate Jesus Christ, the ultimate good example, by choosing to show love and serve others every day.
Reflections:
- What is one thing Jesus did, like forgiving, serving, or being patient that you struggle to imitate?
- How can you turn away from a selfish choice today and instead choose to serve someone, just as Jesus did?
Application:
- Imitate His Service: Think of one small way you can serve someone else today (like helping someone in need without being asked) to copy Jesus’s life of service.
- Imitate His Love: Choose to forgive someone who was unkind to you, just as Jesus forgave His enemies.
- Reject Pride: Ask God to help you stop being authoritarian or selfish, and instead become humble like Christ.
Closing Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for being the perfect example of goodness and love. I want to imitate You, not the bad examples of the world. Give me the strength to choose love and service today. Let my life show that I belong to You. Amen.
