“HOW WE OVERCOME!”
(Revelation 8:2 – 12:17)
And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death. Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short! — Revelation 12:10-12
Every believer knows what it feels like to be accused on the inside—voices whispering, “You failed again,” “God is disappointed with you,” “You’ll never change.”
Some of those accusations feel spiritual because they are!
Revelation reminds us: your battle is part of a much bigger war, and your enemy is real—but so is your victory. As we get near the end of this year-long journey, God wants you to finish knowing exactly how to stand firm.
Jesus – Our Power to Overcome the Enemy
Scripture informs us about the enemy of our soul. He is a real enemy and he has real power. Without Jesus we are powerless to his schemes. In this passage, we learn how Jesus makes us overcomers.
1. Jesus Breaks the Power of Accusation with His Blood
“They have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb…”
Satan’s primary weapon is accusation — guilt, shame, reminders of failure, condemnation, lies about your identity.
The cross permanently silences him.
-
-
-
- The blood doesn’t just forgive; it disarms the dragon.
- Every accusation loses its legal authority because Jesus already paid the price.
- You win by standing under what Jesus already finished, not by proving yourself.
-
-
Bottom line: The dragon can roar, but he has no case.
2. Jesus Gives Us a New Story That Defies the Dragon’s Lies
“…and by the word of their testimony…”
Your testimony isn’t sentimental—it’s spiritual warfare.
It declares what Jesus has done, is doing, and will do.
-
-
-
- Testimony exposes where the dragon once had ground and now has none.
- Testimony builds courage in you and tears down strongholds around you.
- Testimony is you standing in the light against the darkness that once owned you.
-
-
Bottom line: Your redeemed story is a weapon the dragon cannot endure.
3. Jesus Strengthens Us With a Faith That Loves Him More Than Life
“…for they loved not their lives even unto death.”
This is the final punch.
The dragon can’t defeat a believer whose loyalty is anchored in Jesus, not self-preservation.
-
-
-
- Fear loses its leverage.
- Death loses its intimidation.
- Comfort loses its throne.
-
-
When Jesus is your highest love, the dragon loses his deepest tactic: fear.
Bottom line: Radical devotion to Christ shuts the dragon down because he can’t threaten someone who’s already surrendered everything to Jesus.
Key Thought:
You don’t win by avoiding the battle—you win by clinging to the Lamb in the battle.
Applications:
- Use your testimony. After a year in God’s Word, speak what you know to be true.
- Recognize the real enemy. Your fight hasn’t been against people this year—it has always been spiritual.
- Stand firm. God has equipped you. You are not a victim—you are an overcomer.
Reflection Questions:
- What accusation from the enemy has followed me this year?
- How can I use the “word of my testimony” more boldly?
Closing Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for overcoming the enemy. Teach me to walk in the victory of Your blood, to speak Your truth boldly, and to follow You fearlessly. Strengthen me as this year ends, that I may live as one who conquers through You. Amen.
