“FAITH THAT COUNTS AS RIGHTEOUSNESS”
(Genesis 12:1 – 15:21)

Imagine standing under a starry sky, overwhelmed by its vastness. That’s where Abram found himself when God gave him a seemingly impossible promise. Amid Abram’s doubts, God said, “Look toward heaven and number the stars… So shall your offspring be” (Genesis 15:5). Abram didn’t question further; he believed, and that belief changed everything.

From the life of Abram, we learn this most valuable truth:  “True righteousness comes not from what we do but from believing in the promises of God.”  For those desiring a righteous life filled with faith, here are a couple of applications necessary to your goals:

1. Trust God in the Waiting

Abram had waited years for God’s promise of descendants, and the delay tested his faith. Yet God reassured him: “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great” (v. 1). Even when circumstances seemed bleak, God reminded Abram of His protection and faithfulness.

• Challenge: Are you waiting on a promise from God? Trust that His timing is perfect, even when it feels delayed. Revisit His Word for reassurance and hold on to His character as your shield and provider.
• Action Step: Write down one promise from Scripture and pray daily, asking God to help you trust in His timing.

2. Believe Beyond the Impossible

Abram’s situation was humanly impossible: he was old, Sarai was barren, and no heir seemed likely. Yet God’s promise transcended human limitations. Abram believed, and his faith was credited to him as righteousness.

• Challenge: What “impossible” situation do you struggle to believe God for? Remember that God specializes in doing abundantly more than we can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20).
• Action Step: Choose one area where you feel stuck and declare God’s promises over it this week, trusting His ability to work beyond what you see.

Reflection and Application:

• Even the most devout of Christians may have doubts when God’s promises are delayed. Why is it essential to revisit God’s Word and seek His affirmation when His promises have yet to be realized?
• Why does believing God and His promises count as righteousness?  How does our belief impact our actions?  How do we demonstrate that we believe in what we do and do not do?
• How does faith in Jesus and his work on the cross place us in good standing?  How does this saving faith impact our lives?

Prayer:
Father, thank You for the example of Abram’s faith. Help us to trust in Your promises, even when the fulfillment seems distant or impossible. Strengthen our belief in Your power, goodness, and timing. Teach us to walk by faith, knowing that our trust in You is what pleases You. May our lives reflect our confidence in Your Word, and may we honor You with unwavering belief in Your faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
