Why did Jesus have to die?

WEEK 3 DAY 4 — THE CURTAIN GOD TORE HIMSELF

Why Separation Had to Be Removed

Most people feel distant from God—and assume it’s because they failed.

But Scripture tells a different story.

All the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke) report that When Jesus died, the temple curtain was torn from top to bottom

Why was this such a focus among the Gospel writers?

You see the Temple Curtain wasn’t decoration.

It was a warning.

This far—and no further.  It separated the common man from entering into God’s presence.  Go beyond the curtain and die!

But when Jesus gave His life, God ripped the barrier apart Himself.

Not us climbing up. God coming down.

NOTE: Access wasn’t earned. It was opened up to us be Jesus’ death.

If God already opened the door, why are you still standing back?

Application:

What Big Issue in your life do you need to address with God.

  • Based on what we have learned today, you can approach God today without apology and without fear.
  • Write down on a notepad the most important things you need to bring before God to discuss, to gather his insight, discernment and instructions.
  • Schedule a time to sit alone with God to present these to him and then wait for him to give you guidance.  Be sure to write it down.

Confession:

Let’s say this prayer outloud?

Father,

I step into what You opened through the death of your son, Jesus.

Holy Spirit, give me the courage to step into the Father’s Presence and make my petitions known.

Jesus, Thank You for your sacrifice that has purified me, reconciled me to the Father and have made a way for me to enter into the most Holy places because of your sacrifice.

Teach me how to live close and to abide in your love!

Amen.
