WEEK 2 DAY 5 — PEACE THAT DOESN’T RUN
Why God’s Peace Holds When Life Doesn’t
John 14:27 (ESV)
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
Everyone wants peace.
But most of us chase it in fragile places.
Peace when circumstances improve.
Peace when problems resolve.
Peace when control returns.
The problem is obvious:
life doesn’t cooperate.
Jesus speaks about peace before the cross, not after the resurrection.
Before clarity.
Before resolution.
Before victory looks anything like victory.
And He still says,
“Let not your hearts be troubled.”
Biblical peace is not the absence of trouble.
It is the presence of God that trouble cannot remove.
Jesus does not promise a calm week.
He promises a settled heart.
“Not as the world gives do I give to you.”
Worldly peace is temporary and conditional.
God’s peace is durable and relational.
It flows not from control—but from nearness.
Why This Matters
If peace depends on circumstances, it disappears the moment pressure arrives.
But if peace depends on presence, it can survive anything.
Jesus has already told them:
The Father has been revealed.
The way to God has been opened.
The Spirit will dwell within them.
Now He gives the emotional result of those truths:
Peace.
Not optimism.
Not denial.
Peace anchored in who God is and where God is—with you.
Peace is not pretending things are fine.
Peace is knowing you are not alone.
That’s why Jesus pairs peace with courage:
“Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
Fear shrinks when you trust who is with you.
Peace is not found by escaping life.
It’s found by living life with God present.
Where have you been expecting peace to come from outcomes—rather than from God’s presence?
Action Step
When anxiety rises today, don’t rush past it.
Pause and speak this truth aloud:
“God is with me here.”
Let peace become practiced awareness—not emotional perfection.
Confession – Let pray this out loud!
Jesus,
Thank You for a peace that does not disappear when life is uncertain.
Teach me to rest—not in outcomes—but in Your presence.
Guard my heart and steady my mind.
I receive the peace You give today.
Amen.
Closing the Week — Where This Leaves Us
This week answered one central question: Can God be known?
And Jesus’ answer was clear:
God has been revealed in Him.
God has made a way through Him.
God remains with us by His Spirit.
God grants peace through His presence.
But one question remains—and it cannot be avoided.
If Jesus is the way…
If Jesus reveals the Father…
If Jesus gives life and peace…
Why did He have to die?
