“WE DEPEND ON GOD FOR EVERYTHING”
(Jeremiah 6:1-30; 46:1-47:7; Psalm 104:1-35)
“Every one of these depends on you to give them their food as they need it.” – Psalm 104:27
Reading through the prophecies of Jeremiah in today’s assignment demonstrates the judgment of God upon any nation that disobeys Him, including God’s own people, Israel. Jerusalem would be destroyed by outside forces, but God’s judgement would also fall upon Egypt and Philistia.
Psalm 104 brings into focus the central truth that, without God, we have nothing. We depend on Him for literally everything. As He supplies, we can gather and we are satisfied (Psalm 104:28). When He sends His Spirit, new life is born (:30).
So, what should be our response to this, acknowledging that God is our complete source? “I will sing to the LORD as long as I live. I will praise my God to my last breath!” (:33)
Simple Truth: We depend upon God for everything in our life.
Reflections & Application:
- We live in a world where the tendency is to evaluate nearly everything with a “what’s in it for me” mindset. How can we change our thinking to “what does God have for me where He has placed me?”
- You work hard for your income! But, recognize that it is God who supplies ALL that you have! So, give Him praise for everything!
- We are His people – but know that God is fair and just, and being a child of God does not give anyone permission to disobey God’s Word and His will. God will not be mocked!
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that you are my source – my ONLY source – and You have promised to supply my every need according to Your riches in glory. Help me to wisely use what you have given me, and not to lust after what You have not supplied! Help me to serve You today, and everyday. I ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
