“OLD DRY BONES”
(Ezekiel 35:1 – 37:28)
Then he asked me, ‘Son of man, can these bones become living people again?’ ‘O Sovereign LORD,’ I replied, ‘you alone know the answer to that.’” – Ezekiel 37:3
Old, dry bones. Scattered on the floor of the valley. That’s what the Lord showed to the prophet Ezekiel. These bones represented the people of Israel, who were living so far from the will of God that they were as dead as a skeleton. You can’t get much “deader” than nothing remaining but bones!
But, with God, all things are possible! God asks Ezekiel if the bones could live again, and Ezekiel wisely responds by saying that only God knew the answer!
As you read through the following verses, you see that the bones come together, and that muscles and flesh form around the bones, followed by skin covering it all, and finally, breath coming into the now living bodies! God would bring back hope to the nation of Israel.
How is it with you today, my friend? Perhaps you feel that all hope is gone, and that your life is nothing but a dry skeleton of what once was. But, like with Israel, God can give new life and new breath to you! God will “put His Spirit in you!” (:14)
Simple Truth:
No matter how destitute and far from God you may feel your life is, God can bring new life to you, and breathe the breath of His Spirit into you today!
Reflections & Application:
- Speak to yourself today, and just as Ezekiel prophesied, “listen to the word of the LORD!” (:4)
- If your lifestyle has moved away from God, then know that God can, and will, put breath into you and you will come to life! Let Him! (:5)
- If it seems as though all hope is gone (:11), God can give you new hope, and bring you back to the land of the living!
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father, draw me close to you. Bring back the joy of my salvation. Breathe Your Spirit into me, and restore my life in You. My desire is to live for You, and to serve You today and forever. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
