“GETTING IN THE WHEELBARROW”
(Matthew 17:1 – 18:35; Mark 9:2-50; Luke 9:28-50)

“Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, ‘I believe; help my unbelief!’” – Mark 9:24 (ESV)

There’s a story about a man who walked across a tightrope pushing a wheelbarrow high above the ground. After he made it safely, he asked the crowd, “Do you believe I can do it again?” They all shouted, “Yes!” Then he asked, “Who will get in the wheelbarrow?” And just like that no one said a word. They believed he could do it but they didn’t want to risk their own lives. That’s how faith feels sometimes. We say we trust God, but when life gets hard we hesitate to let Him carry us.

The father in Mark 9 was in that same place. He wanted to believe but fear, pain and past disappointments had worn him down. Instead of pretending to be strong, he told Jesus the truth.  I believe, help me where I’m still afraid. Now Jesus didn’t rebuke or turn him away, instead He helped him.  My friends, that’s the kind of Savior we have.  One who meets us in our weakness and lifts us up with grace.

Sometimes we think we need big bold faith to please God. But He’s not asking us to be perfect. He’s asking us to be honest. Even a small step of trust matters. Even a whispered prayer counts. When we say, “Lord, I’m trying,” He says, “I’m here.” Faith grows when we let Jesus carry us even when we’re scared.

Simple Truth:
Faith doesn’t mean having no fear, it means trusting Jesus enough to let Him carry you through it.

Reflections:

  • Is there something in your life you’re afraid to hand over to God?
  • What would it look like to take one small step of trust today?

Application:

  • Tell God where you feel unsure today.  He is waiting to hear from you.
  • Ask Him to help you trust, even when it’s hard.
  • Remember: Jesus doesn’t need perfect faith, just a willing heart.
  • Take one small step today that says, “I trust You.”

Closing Prayer:
Lord, I want to trust You more. Sometimes I feel scared and unsure. Thank You for loving me even when my faith feels small. Help me take that next step, and remind me that You’re strong enough to carry me. In Jesus name, Amen.
