“SUN STOOD STILL”
(Joshua 8:1 – 10:27)

“So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies… The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the LORD listened to a man. Surely the LORD was fighting for Israel!” – Joshua 10:13-14

Are you at a place in life where you just don’t know how you can make it? Your gas tank is on empty… There isn’t enough time to complete your project… Your wallet and your bank account are drained… There’s no food in the refrigerator… I know there are times I’ve been there, and I’m pretty sure you have, too!

In our text, as Israel was battling the enemy, the Bible says that the “sun stood still”! Frankly, I don’t know how that would even be possible, or just exactly what that means. Did God cause the Earth to stop rotating? Did the Sun move with the Earth? Was time frozen? Our human understanding simply cannot comprehend what took place. But, what we DO know is that whatever happened, God supernaturally provided enough time, enough daylight, and enough resource, for Israel to accomplish what He had called them to do.

And, here’s the great thing – God is still able to do that for us today! There will be times when, in the natural, you just don’t know how you can make it… But, God! God can supernaturally cause our gas tank to go that extra mile! He can have groceries dropped off on your doorstep! There are no limits to God’s supernatural resources! He can make the “sun stand still” for you!

Simple Truth:
God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think! (Ephesians 3:20)

Reflections:

  • No matter what may seem impossible to you today, know that nothing is impossible with God!

  • When you are at the “end of your rope” realize that God’s rope is a lot longer than your rope!

  • If God was able to make the sun stand still for Israel, what is there that He can’t do for you?

Application:

  • Today, rather than being downcast due to your lack, look up to Him, for He is able!

  • Have you realized that the first prerequisite for God to do a miracle is for you to have a need?! He only fed the thousands when they had no food… only gave sight to the blind as they couldn’t see… only raised Lazarus after he was dead!

Closing Prayer:
Father, today I submit myself, and all my need, to You, knowing that You can even take what the enemy means for harm and use it for my good and Your glory! In Jesus’ name, amen.
