Who is the Christian God?
Week 2 DAY 2 — THE WAY IS A PERSON
Why Jesus Doesn’t Show the Path—He Is the Path
John 14:6 (ESV)
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”
Most people assume life works like this:
If I have the right information, I can find my own way.
That’s how careers work. That’s how navigation works. That’s how self-improvement works.
So when people think about God, they assume the same logic applies:
- Give me principles.
- Give me guidance.
- Point me in the right direction—and I’ll handle the rest.
But in John 14, Thomas asks a painfully honest question:
“Lord, we do not know where You are going. How can we know the way?”
Jesus’ answer shatters every assumption.
Jesus does not give directions to God. He presents Himself as access to God.
“I am the way.”
Not a way.
Not your way.
Not even God’s way explained.
A Person.
Christianity is not fundamentally about knowing how to live.
It is about knowing who to trust.
That’s why Jesus places belief in Himself alongside belief in God:
“Believe in God; believe also in Me.”
If Jesus is telling the truth, then the issue is not whether you’ve tried hard enough.
The issue is whether you are willing to trust Him.
Why This Matters
A path can be studied. A person must be followed.
Jesus doesn’t say, “Here’s the method—don’t mess it up.”
He says, “Stay with Me.”
That’s radically different.
When He says, “I am the truth,” He is not offering information.
He is claiming faithfulness—that everything God has promised finds its fulfillment in Him.
When He says, “I am the life,” He is not offering self-improvement.
He is preparing to give resurrection life by laying down His own.
This is why Christianity cannot be reduced to morality, values, or habits. At its center is a relationship that carries the full weight of your life.
Are you trying to follow Christian principles without trusting the Person they come from?
A system can inspire you—but it cannot save you.
Only a Person can.
Jesus does not walk slightly ahead, shouting instructions back.
He walks with His disciples—and then dies for them.
That’s why the way to God is not something you master.
It’s Someone you receive.
Action Step
Today, replace effort with trust in one simple prayer:
“Jesus, I want to receive you completely. Help me know you more so I can truly trust you to lead me to the abundant life you promised.
I know we keep asking you to Name the areas where you don’t yet trust Jesus to lead you in. I.e. —fear, direction, guilt, control—and call you to consciously place it under His leadership. Why? Because, trust is a process of truth put into practice on a daily basis.
