Why Jesus Had to Die?

WEEK 3 DAY 1 VIDEO — WHEN SIN IS FINALLY TOLD THE TRUTH

If you’re new to church, new to faith, or still deciding what you believe about Jesus— today’s message is uncomfortable–as we look at Why Jesus Had to Die–but please understand that this message is not about guilt tripping or provoking fear. It’s about telling the truth—so healing is possible.

Here’s an honest observation: Most of us don’t struggle with the idea that we’re imperfect. We do, however, struggle with the idea that we’re actually in danger with eternal consequences. We like to talk about our “ issues” like they’re manageable whether it’s Bad habits. Stress. Trauma. Lack of Self Discipline. Personality quirks–those things ARE real. But the Bible uses a stronger word–and this is where it gets uncomfortable–the Bible/God calls it: Sin.

God does not speak this to shame us—but to tell us what’s actually wrong. And this word is strong and clear.

Why this matters

If sin wasn’t serious, the cross wouldn’t be necessary. Christianity doesn’t say Jesus died to inspire us or motivate us or to send a message. Christianity says Jesus died because something about the human condition required rescue.AND there was only ONE option for WHO could be our “rescuer”.

The prophet Isaiah wrote in Isaiah chapter 53 of the Old Testament:

“He was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. And the LORD laid on Him the sin of us all.”

That language is not gentle because Scripture doesn’t treat sin like a glitch or quirk in our behavior or personality. It treats it like a disease.

You don’t manage cancer. You don’t rename it. You either remove it—or it destroys what it inhabits.

And here’s the uncomfortable truth about SIN:

• Sincerity doesn’t cure it.
• Good intentions don’t neutralize it.
• Time doesn’t heal it.
• Trying harder doesn’t fix it.

So here’s the real question: If sin wasn’t deadly, why would God deal with it personally, directly, at such great cost?

The cross tells us something sobering—but also hopeful: Something was wrong that love alone could not overlook. And something was valuable enough that God refused to abandon.

Acknowledging the reality of sin and it’s cost doesn’t make God harsh. It makes Him honest and it demonstrates perfect love.

Action Step

So today our steps are not a to-do list, not a promise—just REAL honesty:

First: stop minimizing the condition. Stop calling sin a flaw or a phase or just “who I am.” Healing can’t happen to what you keep renaming instead of owning.

Second: stop trying to manage what Jesus came to remove.

• Management says, “I can handle this.”
• The cross says, “You don’t have to.”

Third: bring one real thing–one SIN into the light today. Not everything. Just one.

• The habit.
• The hidden behavior.
• The part of you you’ve tried to keep controlled and contained.

Say this to God—plainly: “This isn’t just a struggle. I need saving here.”

• That’s not weakness.
• That’s the beginning of trust in God and what Jesus has done through the cross.

So our prayer today is: Jesus, Today, I stop arguing with Your diagnosis of my sin. Today, I stop pretending I can manage what only You can heal.

Today, I’m asking you to deal with what I cannot fix. I trust You and I’m asking you to heal me of my sin as only you can.

Amen.
